President’s Message

From the President’s desk,

June 2018

As we come up to summer we will be taking a break so everyone can take time to enjoy their family, friends, and vacations. However before we break we will be having our Annual Pizza Social at Round Table Pizza on Tuesday, June 19th, 5:00 – 6:30 PM. All AACE members and anyone who might be interested on AACE are welcome to attend and get to know each other. Round Table is at 1435 George Washington Way, Richland.

The section elections are over and we have a new President and Vice-President for the coming year, Mike Bensussen will be President and Patti Jones will be the Vice-President. The new officers bring a lot of energy and excitement to the section and I am looking forward to their ideas and enthusiasm. Come out and enjoy some pizza/salad bar and meet the new officers. The full list of officers can be found on our website http://aacersm.org/

Please RSVP by sending an email to: RSM AACEi Board member, Chris Koerner at: Christopher_C_Koerner@rl.gov.

May 2018

As we come up to summer we will be taking a break so everyone can take time to enjoy their family and friends. However before we break we need to organize the chapter for the coming year. This includes voting for the Board Members, Vice President, President and Committee members. Please take time to review the recertification requirements and take a look to see if you are acquiring recertification points at a rate that will provide enough points to maintain your certifications. Please consider volunteering for a position on the board or on a committee which is a good way to earn points that will apply to the recertification requirements. You can earn 2 points per year for volunteering on a board position. The only requirement is that you are a member of the Rattlesnake Mountain Section.

We will be having our annual pizza party at Round Table again in June, so watch for the announcement that will be coming out next month.

February 2018

Looks like winter is pretty much over and thankfully it was not near as eventful as last year. The AACEi Western Winter Workshop starts this Friday and the AACEi Annual Conference will be June 24-27 in San Diego, CA this year. Pretty close to us on the West coast if you have an interest in attending. Locally we are thinking about sponsoring a training class for one of the AACEi certifications. It is called a Seminar in a Box, the Seattle area chapter has been hosting one seminar a year for the last several years. We need to gauge the local interest in a seminar, if you or someone you know might be interested in attending one of these seminars please reply back and let us know also what certification you might be interested in. This is not a firm commitment but we would like to see if there is enough interest to pursue this option. With a full class the cost would be in the range of $300 and it would be a two day seminar.

For those who are working on the Hanford site it is looking like it could be a very busy Spring with several major contracts expiring, there will be a lot of proposals being prepared. Take some time to get out and enjoy our great area while we still have to get out, project controls tend to be either busy or swamped so get out and play a bit while we can.

Remember to make sure your dues are paid for 2018 and let us know if you might be interested in a local Seminar on one of the AACEi certifications.

December 2017

As we near the end of another year it is time to reflect back and review our accomplishments. Most of the time we are so busy looking forward that we do not have time to stop and look back at all of the work we have accomplished over the past year. There are always deadlines and pressure to get work completed but we should take time once in a while to step back and see the contribution that we make to the projects that we are working on. Whether we are estimating, scheduling, or monitoring project performance, the work we do is very valuable and can have a great influence on successful project execution. I encourage you to take a moment during the holidays to look back at the year 2017 and appreciate the importance of your contribution to your project and to also show appreciation for those that you work with as it takes a team to get these projects completed.

We will be taking the month of December off so that members can spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the holidays together. We will start meeting again on January 16th, tentatively we will have a video presentation on Forecasting Total Project Cost Using Bottoms-up Approach and EV. A notice will be sent out in January to affirm the date and subject of the presentation.

Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Looking forward to great things in 2018.

April 2017

Before the break we need to organize the chapter for the coming year. This includes voting for the Board Members, Vice President, President and Committee members. Please review the recertification requirements and take a look to see if you are acquiring recertification points at a rate that will provide enough points to maintain your certifications. Please consider volunteering for a position on the board or on a committee during 2017/2018.  Section officer and director volunteers earn points that apply to the recertification requirements. You can earn 2 points per year for volunteering on a board position. The only requirement is that you are a member of the Rattlesnake Mountain Section.

We will be having our annual pizza party at Round Table again in May, so watch for the announcement that will be coming out next month.
